Cadillac CTS Coupe Delayed

Liquidity may be the buzzword when the topic turns to the crisis that GM is confronting, but at the end of day its the cars they make, and could potentially stop making, that we feel especially close to. GM is scrounging every last penny it can to hold on as long as possible while it waits for a government bailout. That scrounging is officially affecting new vehicle launches.

Vehicle launches are a pretty expensive affair because of all the media hype and advertising that is involved. GM has officially confirmed that it will be pushing back the debut of Cadillac’s very sexy new CTS coupe, and the very practical Chevy Cruze small car. The new Caddy might be low volume but is crucial to keep up the image and momentum of the brand. Its a segment where all of Cadillac’s competitors have played for years.

The Chevy Cruze is a volume seller and is critical to a GM comeback. It is competitive design wise, and fuel efficiency wise with a supposed 40 mpg highway. The interior may even be class leading for a change, it looks that well done. GM needs this car out fast and is determined for a 2010 on sale date, a year later than originally planned.

Both vehicles were set to debut at the LA show but have now been pushed back to the Detroit show in January. GM is stuck in a vicious circle of needing new product to turn around its business, but not being able to sell that new product.
