| Gallery, News | January 5, 2009

nissan cube

Nissan is joining the boxy but funky school of design with a third generation model of its previously Japanese market only Cube. While Scion beat them to the US market with the xB, Nissan has had a boxy wagon on sale in various international markets since 1998. Its relatively inexpensive, fuel-efficient, practical, and quirkier than ever. Its supposed to arrive at US dealers this spring, and naturally private party sales begin within a year or two. Mercedes To Abandon V12 Engines

| News | December 2, 2008

v12
Higher fuel efficiency requirements, stricter carbon emissions legislation, and a greener mood overall in many auto markets around the world are pushing auto makers to rethink the engines they make. A move towards hybrid, electric, and other sorts of greener propulsion on one end unfortunately means a move away from the more exotic, and gas-guzzling, traditional gas engines used in high-end luxury and sports cars.

Ford Looking To Sell Volvo, Finally

| News | December 2, 2008

ford taurus

Ford has announced that it is now looking to sell off its Volvo premium brand, once the centerpiece of its Premier Automotive Group that at one time included Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, even Lincoln for a time. Unfortunately, the sale is not being made out of some grand strategic move to dominate the market, but rather as a way to shore up its finances and pay the bills. While not in as dire a situation as GM, Ford has enough cash on hand to see it through most of 2009.

Nissan Also A No-Show For 2009 Detroit Auto Show

| News | November 25, 2008

nissan no show

Nissan is joining the growing list of automakers that will not be attending the largest auto show in the U.S., the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit this January.  You can take Infiniti off the attendees list too, being Nissan’s luxury brand.  Besides Nissan, the list of automakers that have pulled out of the 2009 Detroit show so far includes Ferrari, Land Rover, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, and Suzuki.  Why are more and more automakers pulling out of the largest U.S auto show?

How Would GM’s Bankruptcy Affect Me And My Chevy?

| News | November 24, 2008

Its back to the drawing board for General Motors and the other Detroit auto makers after last week’s debacle in Washington. It didn’t go so well and needless to say, Congress didn’t give them the time of day, much less $25 billion. No suprise there as many Republicans voiced their opposition well in advance of the hearings, making it clear that a bailout bill would not get enough votes to pass.

2010 Porsche Panamera Arrives A Little Early

| News | November 22, 2008

porsche panamera
Porsche’s 4 door “coupe” is starting to show up on the web in anticipation of its official debut, and while its looking a little better than the camo’d prototypes we’ve been seeing for the last year, thats not saying a whole lot. The back end is probably the most controvertial aspect of the car, Porsche initially showed a sketch that was far slinkier and sexier than this. Continue to gallery

GOP Senators Strongly Oppose Auto Bailout

| News, Video | November 18, 2008

gop senatorsMany top GOP senators feel so strongly about not helping US automakers that they are going so far as to call them “dinosaurs” that should disappear altogether. At odds with Democrats who would like to give GM some of the $700 billion already approved to rescue banks, they feel that the Detroit automakers deserve to fail for not being competitive or innovative. That sentiment is out of touch and misinformed.

Mazda Helps Ford Out With Some Cash

| News | November 18, 2008

mazda 2
Mazda and Ford have had a very close relationship for the last almost 30 years, its a strategic partnership with sharing of vehicle architectures and the like for mostly small cars. While the brand is widely treated as part of Ford’s stable of brands, its never been a wholly owned subsidiary. Instead, Ford chose to acquire enough shares to make for a controlling stake in the Zoom-Zoom brand. What began as a way for Ford to break into Asian markets, is now a crutch to lean on during some very difficult times.

GM Makes Its Case On YouTube

| News, Video | November 18, 2008

gm bailout youtube
GM is trying its best to win some public support for government help by going straight to YouTube. They’ve put up a video explaining some of the consequences if they and the rest of the US auto industry were to completely go out of business. Basically, estimates of up to 3 million jobs would be lost along with well upwards of $400 billion in tax revenues and economic activity. The rest of the facts GM shows may seem overly dramatic, but are accurate nonetheless.
