Jeep Wrangler Drivetrain Updates For 2012
Jeep Wranglers for 2012 will supposedly be replacing their aging, and not that great to begin with, 3.8-liter V6 and 4-speed auto. No official word yet from Chrysler, but the Toledo Blade is reporting that ordering guides have gone out with new specs. In goes Chrysler’s well regarded 3.6-liter V6 and a 5-speed auto, a combo that increases output from 202hp to 290hp and takes fuel efficiency from 15 city/19 hwy to 16 city, 23 hwy. An extra 88 horses is a significant jump AND you still get increased fuel efficiency.
With only about 200hp in a vehicle weighing up to 4,460lbs, some after-market shops are saying they do great business in engine upgrades for the Wrangler, in the neighborhood of $1,500 per customer. The Wrangler is an otherwise fine vehicle, so its easy to understand why many Wrangler faithful would spend $1,500 upgrading their engines to get extra power and torque. The new 3.6-liter V6 should go a ways to address those issues.
